MPG (miles per gallon) measures how far your car travels on one gallon of fuel. Higher is better.
Compact cars: 30–40 MPG. Mid-size sedans: 25–35 MPG. SUVs: 20–28 MPG. Pickup trucks: 18–24 MPG. Hybrids: 45–60 MPG. EVs: equivalent of 90–130 MPGe.
EPA estimates are tested under controlled conditions. Real-world MPG is affected by driving style, speed, AC use, terrain, tire pressure, and weather. Most drivers get 10–20% less than the EPA rating.
